New Central Jail, Colvale Goa

Central Jail or  ‘Correctional Home’  (Phase I) inaugurated by Goa Chief Minister
Laxmikant Parsekar on 30th May 2015 at Colvale Goa.
Phase I which is about 80% of the total project cost  about Rs. 72 crores (of the estimated cost 107.72 of whole project, area 2,25,034 sq mts,).  I think the work on the project started in  the year 2010.
The first phases consist of three barracks – two of which will be used to house the prisoners (see Convicts block / under Trial Block), staff quarters, kitchen, administrative block, 15-bedded hospital and a dental unit
Soon, all the inmates of Central Jail Aguada, Mapusa and few from Sada will be shifted here..
Remaining work, they say will be completed within 8-9 months or by March 2016.
Earlier, the project missed several (completion) dates and the matter was even referred to the court.

Stats:
- Currently, the capacity of the Jail is around 300 but when fully completed it can accommodate upto 624 prisoners.
- The present strength of Prisoners all over Goa is about 550 of which about 120 are convicts

Chilled water bottles were available to drink but not everybody aware of it as no bottles or sign to display
Light snack boxes were also distributed, sadly we did not get one as they did not come to us.
However, my driver was kind enough to share his box which contained a patiice, a samosa and a pedda/sweet.   But saw many women carrying 2-3 boxes in their hands
